App: Words With Friends Free
Cost: Free
Platform: IOS
Grade: All Ages, young children to grandparents
Words with Friends Free is an enjoyable app created for the use of all ages. It is the traditional Scrabble game transformed into a unique program that is available for free. This revolutionary product allows many new and exciting features that are not found on the traditional board game.
Creating your Identity:
First, you make your account by creating a screen name. This can be anything you want, whether it is a nickname or your favorite animal. Sometimes it is hard to choose one since there are so many users with screen names that they have already taken. Do not use your full name, though, because it gives away personal information.
Find an opponent:
Next, you are allowed to chose your opponent. it could be a family member, a friend, or coworker. There is also an option for the computer to choose a random opponent. This is a nice option to have when you do not have any friends available. You are allowed to play only one person at a time.
To Play:
Like the game Scrabble, you choose a word to spell out on the board. Each letter is a certain amount of points depending on how hard it is to use in a word. The board is filled in by connecting words like a crossword puzzle. When all the tiles have been used, the game is over. Whoever has the most points at the end wins. You have the option to challenge the player again, or just delete the game.
Chatting:
While playing the game, there is also an option that allows you to chat with your opponent. You can make new friends, but it can be dangerous to give out personal information. If someone is seeking personal information, you should end the game. If you are careful, this should not be a problem.
What should Change:
There are some disadvantages in playing the free version from the paid version, such as ads that pop up after each move. If you aren’t careful and touch the ad, it can lead you to unwanted commercial videos and websites. Another setback with the app, is that the application periodically freezes. Often I have to delete and reload the app, which can be very frustrating. Words with Friends only allows you to play one person at a time, while I think it would be a better experience for the user to play multiple people in one game.
All in all, I think this is a fun game that allows you to learn new words. This app has new and exciting features that make it very addicting for all ages. Whether you are looking to play for fun or to learn, Words with Friends free is a great start. It was voted the most famous app of 2009, and “it is truly social gaming at its finest.”-Fox News
