Mathletics

by S.M.

App title: Mathletics
Grades: K-12
Pricing: $1.99
Platform: iOS (iPod touch, iPhone, iPad)

The app that I chose is Mathletics. I chose it because I love math and I'm smart at it too. Mathletics is a app that fosters student interest in math throughout K-12 by playing other people throughout the world and also against the computers. And you can see your high scores too. It is available through iOS (iPod touch, iPhone, iPad).

Once you open the Mathletics app, the main menu will appear. It will show 5 levels (level 1, level 2, level 3, level 4 and level 5). You chose a level. Then, you either play from people around the world or train yourself by playing against the computer, similar when you’re at the computer.

This is when the app reaches it’s greatest potential. When you play against the computer, you are basically training yourself at improving your accuracy and speed, so you can beat the other players when you play Mathletics. It will train you on addition, subtraction and patterns.

This is also the other great potential of this app. When you play Mathletics, you might play against one, two, three players or none at all. The players that you might compete against might be fast, slow or your speed. It combines competitiveness , fun and learning all together. The levels that you play are addition, subtraction and Patterns.

During when you play, which lasts one minute, you can look at your progress. When you play you can get only three problems wrong. If you get three problems wrong, you will strike out and will be removed from the game. You can see your current score while you’re playing the game below the problem. The keypad are located at the sides of the problem. Once the time is over, you get to see how much in total you scored and once you made your first score or broke your record, your new records will appear in personal bests.

The price of this app is $1.99. If you are planning to buy it, it may or may not be worth the money. If you are a regular Mathletics player, someone who is competitive and is good at or likes math, I would highlyrecommend this app. If you’re the average kid, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Mathletics is a really fun and educational app. The app is appropriate for kids whose age is 7-14. The kid can be a rookie or a regular Mathletics player. Some things that the maker of the app could improve on is making a backspace so students could erase their answer. All in all, this app is really educational and I would recommend it to any kid whose age is 7-14.
