Matheletics By: JHF

Grade-Lower elementary to middle school
Cost- $1.99
Platform- iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad

Sitting in math class, and doing computation is not always fun.  It can be really boring and give you a headache.  Having done this is my math class I know what it feels like.  It is way more exciting when there is a little competition going on, and it will help you become better at math too.  This is where Mathletics comes in and is the answer to the problems of learning computation in a fun way.  For this review I will be looking at the iPhone/ iPod/ iPad version of this app.

Review

There are two reasons that I chose this app.  One reason is that computation is hard sometimes and this app could really help people if they wanted to become better at it.  The other reason is that it is really fun to play on and compete against other people.

When you first open the app it takes you to a screen where you can choose they level you want to play at.  Level one is addition, level two is subtraction, level three is multiplication, level four is division, and level five is a mix of levels one through four. All levels are basic computation.

After you choose what level you want to play on, it will give you an option of finding a match, or playing the iPod.  If you choose a match, it will search around to see if other people are on Mathletics and you can compete against them.  That way you can test your skills against other people in the world.

While playing, you are allowed three computation errors.  If you get three wrong, just like they say in baseball, “three strikes you’re out!”  The goal is to not get struck out!  You want to beat your opponent with as many right answers as you can get.

Lastly,  if you get a high score it will add it to your personal record.  Every time you beat a high score, it will change it on your personal record!   As the screenshot shows, it will let you know how many computation problems you can get done in one minute.  It keeps track for all five levels.
Review of Cost

Is this app worth $1.99?  I say “of course!!!”  This app really helps you with your computation skills, and does it in a super fun way.  The way to look at it is, its only $1.99, why shouldn’t I get it?

Conclusion

All in all Mathletics is a really useful app and I really enjoyed using it.  One thing I would suggest for the app is that they make an easier way to delete a number that you typed in wrong.  Otherwise, you are sitting there wasting time of your 60 seconds waiting for it to clear.  This app is good for lower elementary students up to middle school students.  I would really recommend this app to anyone who feels like they want to improve on their computation skills, and wants to add a little fun to learning.
