Measure It

Measure it!' allows you to estimate the size of anything you can photograph! Whether it's a book, TV, tree, bridge or skyscraper, 'Measure it!' will give you a great idea of how tall and wide it is.

Estimation is always a fun math activity in my experience. Here is an app that might be intersting to use even if it isn't perfect.  After taking a picture, the device asks you to put in a picture and resize it to a comparable ratio.  Then you pull a virtual measuring tape and it will give you the measurement.  Well, if my explanation is convuluted, go to the offical site to see more.
