App Review: Physics 101 SE Jr

App Title:  Physics 101 SE Jr

Developer Website: Praeter Software

iTunes Link: Click Here

Grade Level: HS, College

Purpose: A

Program Functionality: A

Overall Educational Value: A

Cost: FREE

Recommendation:

Physics can be a very daunting class at the high school and especially at the college level.  There are so many formulas to use and remember that it can become very confusing.  Physics 101 SE Jr makes this just a little bit easier.  This app is basically a calculator to help you solve for any unknown in various physics equation in kinematics (8 equations), projectile motion (8 equations), dynamics (4 equations), work (4 equations), and energy (6 equations).  It is as simple as putting the known variables into the equation and solving for the unknown.  Additionally, it defines each of the equations and explains how they are used in simple English.

The only downfall of this app is the number of available equations.  I have used Physics 101 SE on the computer which has every equation you would need.  This app only covers Newtonian physics (basically first semester physics stuff).  However, considering this app is FREE, there is really no need to complain.

If you are a physics student or teacher, I highly recommend this app.

Classroom Use Examples / Ideas:

I can envision students using this app to quickly check their work and to help them review for tests.  I can envision teachers using this to quickly check student work or while creating practice problems, tests, etc.

Other:

If you are searching for a more robust app to help you with physics equations, you should check out 101-in-1 Physics Solver:  Mechanics, Electricity, Magnetism, Waves & Fluids Calculator.  You can find it here.  At only $0.99 it is a steal and it covers most, if not all, of the equations you will need for your high school and college physics classes.
