iPads, New to our District

I am excited to join this community and learning how more people use these type of devices within their classrooms.  My district just recently purchased 20 iPads for use throughout our building.  For us, a K-8 building with only 8 to 15 students per grade and 84 total student population, this is a great chance to use something other than a text book, because in theory every student can have one right in front of them during the entire class.  I, being the "techie" of the group, decided to really pursue them being used.  That led me to this site and to Mr. Meech.

I would love to hear from anyone who uses the iPod or iPad technology in their classroom.  At this time, we have three of thirteen teachers using them on a weekly basis in their classroom.  Not bad for us, but I want to see more.  I look forward to posting more about our experience here and learning from everyone within this community.

I use my iPad daily in the classroom for several purposes. I'm a music teacher and must assess students regularly, listening and evaluating live performances. I use a Mac with Parallels for Windows since our school uses Integrade Pro electronic gradebook software. So I fire up the iPad, use remote to start a background iTunes track, switch to the Parallels iPad app and I am able to access my gradebook as I am walking around the classroom as well as control my stereo. I love to show the kids apps like iBone, and the latest one "Magic Fiddle". I'm really looking forward to when gradebooks are truly iPad native. But as a music teacher, I love how it has allowed me more freedom in the classroom.

Hi Aaron,

We're doing an iPad Pilot at Trinity College, University of Melbourne. You'll find heaps of great information through iTunesU, but you may also find our blog handy - http://ipadpilot.wordpress.com

cheers,
Mark
